Another thing, I think I need to stop reading so much Thomas Merton… now I think I want to send Andrew (my fictional character in my novel) off to a Trappist Monastery at some point in the story. I work through a lot of my story ideas and plots through in my head over and over before I try to get them down on “paper”. I started writing the scene and it was so sad to me. I wrote it from Isabel’s (The twin sister) POV and I couldn’t do it. So… he’ll just go on retreat, rather than change his whole life.<\/p>\n
I was also talking to a good friend of mine about my writing and some of my family history. I really think I could write a fictionalized account of my mother’s life. It might make for a good story. At the very least, I suppose I could use some of the details from her life and put them into my current stories. I’ve been spending time with my older cousins and it’s been really cool and it’s given me a glimpse on my mother’s life and has also pretty much confirmed some of the things I’ve suspected about her childhood. It could be interesting. Anyway, my cousin, her daughter, Mom and I are going to try to get together to talk about family history. My younger cousin (the daughter) and I are very much interested in working on the family tree. I think it would be something worthwhile. I used to baby sit her when I was a teenager. She’s a writer for Sports Illustrated. I have a certain amount of envy because of that.<\/p>\n
